Aircuity Customer Grand Valley State University Wins Association of Energy Engineers Regional Energy Project of the Year Award

Grand Valley State University Recognized for its Achievements Using Aircuity’s Ventilation Optimization Solution to Significantly Improve Energy Efficiency

Aircuity, the smart airside efficiency company, today announced that its customer Grand Valley State University has been selected as the winner of the 2011 Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) Region III Energy Project of the Year Award. Aircuity’s OptiNet system, a comprehensive suite of intelligent ventilation measurement and optimization technologies, was implemented in the Padnos Hall Laboratory to significantly improve energy efficiency across the entire facility.

The goal of the laboratory ventilation project was to significantly reduce energy costs by improving the ventilation performance in the Padnos Hall Laboratory. Leveraging OptiNet’s centralized sensing and indoor air monitoring technology, Aircuity was able to reduce air changes in the laboratory, control exhaust and provide continuous DCV across the entire facility, resulting in significantly enhanced energy savings while maintaining superior indoor air quality. The first installation was so successful, the school ordered a second expansion installation, with both phases saving an estimated $58,000 annually. The University is currently designing a third installation to work within a new library that will break ground later this year.

Grand Valley State University, located in Allendale, Michigan, is the lowest state funded public institution in the State, and continues to search for creative approaches to reducing rising energy costs. The Aircuity laboratory ventilation project is one of the more successful projects in terms of energy reduction.

“Ventilation optimization provides one of the most significant energy efficiency measures a school can implement, and this project is a great success story in how to do it right,” said Robert Brierley, president and COO of Aircuity. “Grand Valley is truly deserving of this recognition and we are proud to play such a significant role in helping them achieve the most substantial energy savings possible.”
