Energy Efficiency projects have become a wide spread initiative among higher education institutions. The California Community College Network and Aircuity teamed together to implement the OptiNet system across different California Community College campuses to lower CO2 emissions and energy costs. California utility companies are backing this effort with incentive payments for proven energy conservation projects. Together, this joint effort has brought $547,000 in energy incentives to LA Valley College, Delta College and Santa Monica College.

Santa Monica College – Santa Monica, California

Santa Monica College is a fully accredited two-year community college with nearly 30,000 students and more than 80 fields of study. Santa Monica College prides itself on both preparing its students for careers of the 21st century while also serving as a role model in global stewardship. Going green has meant changes in the way colleges maintain their grounds, construct their buildings, perform their research and even teach their courses. Santa Monica College commitment to sustainability initiated their energy-reducing retrofit project for their Science Building.

Santa Monica College partnered with Aircuity to retrofit the ventilation system in their Science Building to achieve substantial energy savings and improve the indoor environmental quality for their students and faculty. Using demand control ventilation (DCV) technology, Aircuity’s multiplexed air sensing and measurement system will be able to continuously sense and analyze the building’s indoor environment and provide intelligent inputs to the building management systems, making adjustments to the ventilation rates to optimize for energy efficiency and occupant comfort. Santa Monica College has earned energy reduction rebate checks from both Southern California Edison and Southern California Gas Company, due to the significant energy saving initiatives implemented at their Science Building. Aircuity’s (DCV) technology has helped Santa Monica College achieve:

$130,000 in annual energy savings
$217,000 in energy incentives
$1.5 Million cost savings over the next 10 years

As an active supporter of the American College and University President’s Climate Commitment (ACUPCC), Aircuity has helped more than 75 University customers with over 100 installations lower their energy consumption and CO2 footprint.  Aircuity solutions are often ranked as the most significant energy conservation measure implemented on a college campus.  Contact Aircuity today to find out how we can make a difference on your campus!
