Aircuity Engages with the GSA in their “Green Proving Ground” Program

Aircuity brings Demand Control Ventilation to the largest GSA asset in the Caribbean

Aircuity, the smart airside efficiency company, announced today that the Federico Degetau Federal Building in the Hato Rey section of San Juan, Puerto Rico will deploy the OptiNet system in their office building and courthouse to improve energy efficiency by implementing Demand Control Ventilation (DCV). Representing the largest U.S General Services Administration (GSA) owned asset in the Caribbean, the 350,000 square foot federal building houses a number of federal agencies, including the FBI. The Degetau Building is part of the GSA Green Proving Ground Program, which evaluates innovative sustainable building technologies and aims to help lead market transformation through their deployment. To date Aircuity’s OptiNet system has been deployed in three GSA buildings across the United States.

Typical design practices in use today state that the way to properly ventilate a building is to fix the amount of outside air being delivered within a building at the design or peak occupancy levels, without regard to the fluctuation in occupancy occurring throughout the day. This conventional approach generally leads to over ventilation of the building, creating significant energy waste.
