University of Iowa Selects Aircuity for Pappajohn Biomedical Discovery Building

New Biomedical Research Facility will Utilize Aircuity to Help Improve Energy Efficiency and Indoor Environmental Quality

Aircuity, the smart airside efficiency company, announced today that the University of Iowa has chosen to install Aircuity in its Pappajohn Biomedical Discovery Building, to help improve energy efficiency and significantly enhance the facility’s Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ). Specialized Products serves as the engineering representative on this project and will be installing the OptiNet system in various laboratory and vivarium areas within the facility.

Through a unique, continuous sampling process, Aircuity’s OptiNet system can monitor particles, CO2, or other airborne contaminants and optimize air change rates for energy efficiency, safety, and comfort. With Aircuity’s help, laboratories can typically lower their HVAC energy costs by 20‐40%.

The Pappajohn Institute will be the University’s new home for high‐risk, high‐reward interdisciplinary research for society’s most prominent diseases and conditions including heart disease, cancer, stroke, Alzheimer’s, blinding eye disease and diabetes. Working together in laboratories throughout 200,000 square feet of laboratory space, top scientists from all corners of the UI campus will tackle research projects leading to clinical advancements for patients across Iowa and around the globe.

The $122.5 million John and Mary Pappajohn Biomedical Discovery Building, to be built as an extension to the Medical Education and Research Facility and the Carver Biomedical Research Building, is due for completion in late 2013. Aircuity’s solution was first installed in the Carver Biomedical Research building this past year, with additional installations planned as the facility undergoes additional renovations in 2011.
